The human body gets support from various bone structures. The scientific name referring to the human structure that ensures all physical activities takes place accordingly is, usually referred to as the musculoskeletal system.
In many instances, this system may incur defects due to diseases or injuries and therefore, requires treatment or reconstruction. Dr. Cameron Clokie is the chief executive officer of Induce Technologies, a regenerative medicine company responsible for the development of solutions geared to treating the musculoskeletal system.
Additionally, Dr. Clokie is a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgeries. On the other hand, he has dedicated most of his career in research and entrepreneurship. Dr. Clokie has 30 years of experience in academic dentistry and clinical practice. In 1998, he got named as the head of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Later, he became a Professor of the same at the University of Toronto. Clokie retired from academic in 2017.
Over the years, Dr. Clokie held several board positions in several scientific advisory institutions. His research on both bone reconstruction and regenerative medicine has acquired recognition on local and international levels. He is a holder of over 25 patents.
According to Bloomberg, Dr. Clokie developed strategic alliances with institutions enabling him to commercialize the products of his knowledge and ingenuity.
One of his achievements in the reconstructive surgery and bone regeneration was the breakthrough that saw a protein strain seduce adult stem cells into becoming bone tissue. Through this method of reconstruction, Clokie pioneered a technique of resetting the jaws skeletal clock.
The method coaxes the bones and stimulates them to grow just like they do in a child. Earlier, methods used in rebuilding body parts involved a lot of pain. Bone, fat or muscle is removed from parts of the body and transplanted to the location required. However, with this new advancement, tissue regeneration is carried out without stealing tissues from other parts.
The first procedure performed on a patient took place at Toronto General Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. The process of reconstructing the patient’s jaw involved modeling a particular protein into the shape of his jaw. Within two days, the patient got discharged from the hospital.
Additionally, the patient described the operation as just an uncomfortable feeling. The breakthrough is set to revolutionize the tissue regeneration industry.
